BREAKING-- Bomb Scare In Abuja: FG Beefs Security Around FCT
FOLLOWING threats of attacks by the Boko Haram sect, the Federal Government has beefed up security in strategic locations around the Federal Government Terrotory as Nigerians celebrate the Ed-el-Kabir.
It was gathered that, sequel to the security report in Adamawa alerting the agencies of threat by the Boko Haram sect to attack some locations, surveillance in the nation’s capital has been doubly tightened.
The Police highest authority had, on Friday in Abuja, ordered deployment of necessary logistics and personnel to all corners of the country to ensure hitch-free celebration.
Although security experts have expressed optimism that the insurgents have been cowered and boxed to a corner by the military, Anthony Igyuve, a lecture with the Bingham University, Karu Nasarawa State, said government must take precaution and not be carried away by the euphoria, “because these guys have nothing to lose.”
Cosmas Abidemi, an expert in criminal law, opined that the insurgents are retreating but would want to give the impression that they are not discouraged.
Another source said the need for caution should not be overlooked. “ Although the video released by the sect to show that their leader, ‘Abubakar Shekau,’ is still alive has some elements of being a propagandist strategy of defeated terrorists, there is need to be very sure of what we are doing.”
Another source at the Department of State Services (DSS), said they had prepared to tighten security around Abuja three weeks before the “Eidul Adha” celebration, stating, “we even made sure some of our men had secured vulnerable spots and are gathering as much information as possible and we can assure you that Abuja is secured,” he said.
